Current Financial Goals

    The Webb Vocational Institute
WVI Reality and Facility PDF Print E-mail

The WVI is now opening the 1st school!

The initial focus of the Webb Vocational Institute is going to be on vocational courses for young adults in order to give them the necessary skills to compete on a global level. At present, we only have the facilities and equipment to handle between eighty and one hundred students at a time. We still need help paying the bills though. If you would like to sponsor a child to help them fight poverty with education, please use the donate tab on this page and give whatever help you can. It costs us roughly eighty dollars per month per young adult but for that price, they each have their own personal equipment to use and have the opportunity to sit down uninterrupted on their very own computer while they begin learning skills that will allow them to begin earning money almost immediately.

You can support a student for a full month for only eighty dollars! Can you help?

    Will You?

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the following people and businesses who are offering their continued support of the WVI

The No Name Net Cafe which has pledged 5% of Net Income to the financial support of the WVI

The No Name Net Cafe is located in Barangay Tabuco, Naga City just across the street from DataMex and two doors down from the QueenBank

John Whelan who has arranged for the Financial Support of the Licensing requirements for the WVI

With your help we have reached our first goal

We would like to extend our special, heartfelt thanks to the following individuals for their support during these tough times. (List is not in any particular order)

    Dr. David C. Webb

    John Whelan

    Ma'am Moira Lynn Mefein

    Pastor Ako Enoh

    Ma'am Ruth Tandaan Sto Domingo

    Don Weinstein

    Marc Davidson

The Government of Naga City (Ang Maogmang Lugar)

… and far too many others to mention here properly. Thank you to everyone who helped us in getting started!

Now we have raised the stakes a little bit and we still need your help!

Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like home!

We are currently working on establishing a WVI "Micro" or "ShowCase" facility in order to demonstrate how all of the different aspects of the Webb Vocational Institute can be used not only within the confines of an educational institution, but how it can be used by families around the world to break the cycle of poverty once and for all.

    There's no place like home

At this time, we are working on getting some grants to build the first, full-fledged WVI Facility. In the meantime, we are still working on getting a home now that we are official and we can think of no better way to do that than to build a “Test” facility … though in all actuality, it would simply be a miniature version of the full facility. While it would not house nearly as many people or provide all of the opportunities that the full facility will, it should serve as a more-than-adequate example of what can be done when all of the different aspects of the WVI are put together and working towards a common goal. It may not look like much and it certainly needs a share of hard work but it is possible. We are not at all afraid of the work and the work needed drops the price down where it is actually affordable and something that we can look at realistically and with an actual hope of being able to attain this property for our stated purposes. The property is an overall sixteen-hundred square meters and has a rice field, a piggery, a house and needs an awful lot of work. Fortunately, it is also very affordable and will cost us roughly five thousand four hundred US dollars to purchase outright at the current exchange rates.  We have estimated it is going to take another four thousand dollars in repairs but that can all be done over the course of time. The house would serve well as a home or as an office and is not absolutely necessary for the sample facility. However, the other areas where we will be making improvements and installing new equipment are a bit more important and will have to be taken care of before we can use the location as a showroom of sorts, to introduce people to what exactly we are doing.

While you can still donate cash … and we do desperately need the help, we have also made the option available for you to purchase equipment directly and have it shipped here. All too often, what you donate to some charities ends up somewhere else altogether. In an effort to avoid any such happenings here, we are always on the lookout for ways to better serve you while your help goes directly to those that need it the most!

The property is ideally suited to our cause for a number of different reasons

    Wind Power Generation

    Wind Generator

The property is situated on a “mesa” or a large plateau on top of a hill making it ideal for wind generated power. The cross-currents about ten meters (about thirty-one feet) up are constant and strong enough to provide a steady supply of wind for a wind generator. You can use the donate button on the left hand side of the page to help us purchase a wind generator or if you prefer, you can select from one of these places (or anywhere else you prefer) and purchase a wind generator directly and simply have it shipped to the WVI at the address on the bottom of this page.

Click here to view a selection of wind generators from Google Products if you would prefer to get the products directly rather than having to make a donation!

    The Piggery or Pig Pen

    The Pig Pen

The Piggery is going to be an important part of both the vocational education and business opportunities for recipients of assistance from the WVI. In addition to all of that, the waste from the pigs will be utilized in such a manner as to help make the entire process fully sustainable and eco-friendly.Like most of the property, the pig pen does need some work to be fully functional but it is well within reason to believe that this will work to our advantage.  At this time we are working with Dr. Jeffrey Macdonald and the University of North Carolina at Durham in order to establish a mutually beneficial agreement. While much of their work remains protected as their patents are applied for and approved, they have managed to greatly increase the efficiency with which natural gases can be recovered from the solid waste. It is hoped that this process will allow for the introduction of electrical power in locations where, to date, dependable electrical power supplies and transmission have been questionable at best. Since the pig pen is already in need of repairs, any necessary plumbing and other requirements can simply be added during the renovations in progress

    .

The piggery does come with the property so there is no additional cost associated with this in regards to pricing. Repairs are estimated to be roughly twelve-hundred US dollars. This should provide us with everything that we need in order to get the piggery up, running and generating clean power and organic fertilizers. Any pigs harvested from the WVI Showcase facility will be used to feed the homeless and the needy. Any pigs sold by the WVI showcase facility will be used to cover a small portion of the administrative costs for the WVI including payment for the facility and any resultant costs of operation.

Three Primary Uses for Natural Gas

While there may be plenty of uses for natural gas, within the WVI facilities, the natural gas will serve three primary functions. It is believed that this will adequately reduce costs to maintain a larger portion of grants and donations for their primary purpose of providing an education for the under-privileged. In addition, it should also allow all of the WVI facilities to run in an environmentally friendly manner and at the same time utilize waste products and convert financial liabilities into financial assets.

    Heating

Propane stoves are readily available in the Philippines for around twelve-hundred pesos or thirty US dollars. The tanks for the propane are also available for roughly the same amount. While that may seem extremely cheap in fully industrialized nations, in the Philippines it would be almost a full month’s salary for the average, unskilled worker. However, given their ready availability here, these will generally be purchased from local markets to the extent that it is possible. If you are able to help with the purchase of stoves, propane tanks or other similar materials, please use the “Donate Now” button on the left-hand menu.

    Power Generation

    Propane Generator

There may be occasions when it is necessary to supplement the wind-driven power with a more steady and reliable source. Still, we will not rely on fossil fuels or other, less environmentally friendly methods when we have all of the makings for green energy at our disposal. Still, to make this work, we are going to need a propane or natural gas generator. It will be necessary to use larger generators at the larger facilities but for the time being, any of the small ones would do just fine.

You now have the option to get the best price for a  Natural Gas generator from Google Products and have it shipped here directly. Click here if you would like to see some of the products that can help the under-privileged and impoverished to enjoy safe and secure housing and perhaps even more importantly, secure their futures!

    Refrigeration

Propane RefrigeratorPropane refrigeration is thought by some to be relatively new technology but in fact, it goes back to the old ammonia ice boxes from the Propane Freezerearly twentieth century. Still, it is not only convenient but in many cases, actually cheaper (and always cleaner) than traditional electric refrigeration units. Again, for the larger facilities, larger, commercial refrigerators will be needed but for a showcase, the smaller, single home size units will work fine. Ideally, we would like to install both the regular refrigerator as well as a chest freezer in order to fully demonstrate the viability of the propane or natural gas refrigeration units. Anybody who has ever taken an extended trip in an RV or on a boat probably already knows how well they work but most people in the Philippines are woefully unaware of any alternatives to electrical appliances with the exception of the stoves being used. Given the relative isolation of the location of this property, it is highly possible that many different families will be using the refrigeration here. If you would, please take a moment to peruse the propane and natural gas refrigerators and freezers on Google Products and as always, you can now make your purchase and have the items shipped directly to the WVI in the Philippines.

    Chicken Coops

Broiled ChickedThe chicken coop will function in much the same was as the Piggery does. The primary purpose is to provide viable, vocational45 Day Broilers education to those who need it the most as well as an opportunity to generate enough of a positive cash flow to care for their families while the children are attending school. Also along the same lines, the waste from both the live chickens and the harvested meat will be used to generate readily available sources of organic fertilizers and emulsifiers. Once again the needs for a “showroom” facility are not going to be as great as the needs for a full WVI facility but it will help to actively demonstrate how everything works together. The chicken waste will also be extremely beneficial to the entire process of making readily available, sustainable and affordable organic fertilizers and emulsifiers using commercial size composters on the full WVI facility and in smaller composters on individual or at the showcase WVI facility.

    Composters

The WVI Showcase facility will include commercial production composters but the Showcase WVI facility will not need nearly as much. Still, most of the composters will probably be built locally and we can hopefully use some of the other aspects of the WVI educational facilities to show people how to create their very own tools for home use as well. While there may not be a great call for commercial earth worm production, the worms and other resources associated with composting should help us to establish a fully self-contained and functional organic output that is also sustainable and ecologically friendly.
